CAAI uncovers a new case of severe animal abuse in Svishtov, Bulgaria

Feb 4, 2026 | Cases, Chosen, Press Releases

The Bulgarian woman seen in the videos is known as a legend in dark-web groups sharing pornographic videos with animals. Together with her partner, she tortured animals to death for more than 10 years.

Following a report submitted by the organization CAAI, during a specialized police operation on February 3rd, 2026, in the town of Svishtov, Bulgaria and the nearby village of Tsarevets, Detelin Avramov and Anita Vachkova (both 53 years old) were arrested. The operation was carried out by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) and the General Directorate of the National Police (GDNP), under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Veliko Tarnovo.

According to the organization, for a period of more than 10 years, the couple tortured and killed animals in an extremely brutal and sadistic manner, using specially designed torture devices.

All of this was recorded in paid pornographic videos in which, while torturing the defenseless animals, they masturbated and urinated on them. Some of the videos were more than an hour long. Among the victims of the sadistic couple were hundreds of chicks, fish, guinea pigs, swine, rabbits, cats, dogs, and others.

CAAI learned about the cruel offenders a few weeks after uncovering the case of the abusers from Pernik, Gabriela Sashova and Krasimir Georgiev. That case – also reported by the organization – led to national protests and significant amendments to the Penal Code. In March of last year, the organization received a tip from a concerned follower of their social media page, who had come across information about abusers known only to be Bulgarian.

The information was scarce, but nevertheless CAAI began an investigation. In the footage, the perpetrators skillfully hid their identities. After months of investigation, hundreds of video reviews, and help from the same foreign informant who had provided the tip about the couple from Pernik, they managed to uncover substantial evidence and reported the case to the General Directorate “National Police.” The organization handed over information about more than 100 pornographic videos depicting violence against animals, along with incriminating evidence.

“Unfortunately, after the case of the animal abusers from Pernik, we learned of and uncovered yet more crimes against animals – this time in Svishtov. In both cases, we see extreme brutality and details that are deeply shocking and cannot be shared publicly. Had we not reported the case of Gabriela and Krasimir, they too could have continued their criminal activities for many more years. Such videos have been a global trend for years, and only serious prevention, high detection rates, and penal consequences can stop this cruelty.

The videos of Anita and Detelin from Svishtov once again prove that human cruelty can be boundless. We thank the officers of GDNP, GDBOP, the Cybercrime Directorate, and the District Prosecutor’s Office of Veliko Tarnovo for their cooperation. We also extend special thanks for the help and efforts of Inspector Kamen Nikolov from the ‘Crimes Against the Environment and Wildlife’ unit within the Economic Police Department at GDNP,” said Petya Altimirska, Chairperson of CAAI.

If it is proven that the sadists from Svishtov tortured animals after the most recent amendments to the Penal Code in June 2025, the maximum sentence they could receive is 12 years in prison.

Last year, following an investigation into other similar crimes, CAAI submitted a report to the Brazilian police, with assistance from a local organization. This report led to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the crimes and prompted proposals to amend animal-cruelty legislation in the country.
