Who are we?
CAAI (“Campaigns and Activism for Animals in Industry”) is a non-profit organization founded to protect animals, especially in factory farming. The association was registered in 2017 for public benefit.
Our vision is of a society that does not see animals as tools for human benefit, but as living beings with their own needs and individuality, entitled to a life of dignity and respect for ethical reasons. We are aware that this is a vision that is very far from the current situation, so in our practical activities we focus on partial steps that can improve the current attitude of society towards animals and gradually bring us closer to our long-term vision.
CAAI is the organizer of the National Citizens’ Initiative to ban the harvesting of fur in Bulgaria, as well as the campaigns Ban Fur Farms in Bulgaria and the EU, Spread Your Wings, Stop Cuddling, Try 22, No Animal Testing.
CAAI is a member of Eurogroup for Animals, Fur Free Alliance, Open Wing Alliance and Cruelty Free Europe.
CAAI fur is the representative for Bulgaria of the European civil initiatives End the cage age, Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics, Fur Free Europe and Fur Free Retailer and Chicken Watch.
We believe that tangible advances in animal protection cannot be achieved by the work of a few people at one table; it takes a strong movement of many motivated activists to achieve them. So our ambition is to build an organisation that can engage a significant number of people helping in campaigns for animals.
CAAI focuses not only on informing people, but also on actively advocating for legislative changes and other systemic reforms. The first major initiative we successfully developed in this area was our campaign to ban fur farms in Bulgaria. In our activities, we fully adhere to the principle of non-violence and respect for democratic values, which we consider basic to any legitimate effort for social change for the better.
